Genshaft Named "Outstanding Floridian"

Judy Genshaft received the Outstanding Floridian Award from the Florida Council of 100.

On Nov. 12, 2020, the Florida Council of 100 honored Judy Genshaft with a highly prestigious statewide award — Outstanding Floridian Award.  This is the first year the “Outstanding Floridian Award” has been given by the Council of 100, a nonpartisan organization of business leaders that exists to promote the economic growth of Florida. The Council of 100 works closely with the governor and state and federal leaders to effect positive change for the citizens of Florida.

The award is given to Floridians who have demonstrated extraordinary achievement and contribution to the state of Florida and its citizens. Recipients must reflect true service above and beyond the call of duty that has resulted in extraordinary achievement on a consistent basis and not just for a single achievement.

Judy, you are truly remarkable. Your legacy continues to flourish and make a profound impact on our state and beyond. We are honored to know you!

Women in Leadership & Philanthropy

The Women in Leadership & Philanthropy (WLP) program at USF is focused on engaging and educating its members in support of women and women's initiatives throughout USF and in our communities.

Founded in 2005 by a small group of individuals and a handful of Tampa Bay area corporations, WLP advanced a vision shared by noted philanthropist Carol Morsani and USF President Emerita and Professor Judy  Genshaft to create the first women’s philanthropic organization in the Tampa Bay region focused on developing the intellectual and leadership potential of women through the promotion of mentorship, philanthropy, community engagement and scholarly excellence. Fast forward 14 years and WLP — now numbering more than 350 individual and 25 corporate members strong — has helped stimulate numerous transformational gifts to benefit USF has directly raised well over $5 million to support our scholarships and programs; and has invested well over $1 million in grants, scholarships and programmatic funding to assist female students, faculty members and women in the Tampa Bay region. These achievements are a clear sign that USF WLP is a key driver in advancing women’s leadership and philanthropy in our communities and is fulfilling the vision of our founding members.

Since our founding, WLP has awarded more than 600 scholarships, devoted mentoring hours to countless students and has provided research awards to 35 female faculty members. WLP presents a wide variety of educational and leadership development programs annually on all USF campuses and in our surrounding communities, and has formed formal mentoring partnerships with USF’s Center for Leadership & Civic Engagement, Office of Veteran Success, Athletics, the Transitional Advising Center, the Judy Genshaft Honors College, the USF St. Petersburg campus and the Sarasota-Manatee campus. In 2016, in partnership with Valley Bank (formerly USAmeriBank), WLP enhanced our student leadership programming by forming the WISE (Women Who Ignite Student Engagement) Advisory Council. Together with the WLP Mentoring and Program Committees and with the WLP WISE Advisory Council, we developed and launched USF's first student-led leadership symposium in spring 2017, and just celebrated our third successful WISE Student Symposium in March 2019.

The continued success of WLP is the result of the collective generosity of all of our members, who lend their time, talent and treasure to make WLP the impactful organization that it has become. We thank you, our Founding, Lifetime, Corporate and Individual members, for your engagement and continued leadership and support, and encourage others to “join in” and become a part of the WLP Experience.
